Nestled within the historic charm of Kingston, New York, Chleo stands as a testament to the evolving culinary landscape of the Hudson Valley. Located at 288 Fair St, this establishment has quickly become a focal point for those who appreciate the intersection of traditional techniques and contemporary dining sensibilities. The restaurant captures the spirit of the local community, offering a space where the atmosphere is as carefully curated as the ingredients themselves. Whether you are a long-time resident of Ulster County or a visitor exploring the scenic beauty of the region, Chleo provides an inviting environment that feels both sophisticated and deeply rooted in its surroundings.
The philosophy behind Chleo is centered on the belief that dining should be an immersive experience. By prioritizing the quality of seasonal produce and the integrity of preparation, the kitchen team crafts dishes that resonate with authenticity. It is a place where the pace of life seems to slow down, encouraging patrons to savor every moment spent within its walls.
What Defines the Chleo Experience
While every visit to a restaurant is subjective, several core elements define the identity of Chleo and contribute to its reputation in the Kingston area:
Commitment to Seasonal Sourcing: The menu is heavily influenced by the rhythm of the seasons. By working closely with regional farmers and producers, the kitchen ensures that the ingredients featured are at their peak of freshness, which naturally dictates the evolution of the offerings throughout the year.
Focus on Culinary Craftsmanship: There is a clear emphasis on the technical aspects of cooking. From the precise handling of proteins to the thoughtful balance of flavors in every dish, the culinary team demonstrates a respect for classical foundations while remaining open to modern interpretations.
Atmospheric Design: The interior of the restaurant is designed to foster connection. With a layout that balances intimacy with openness, the setting is suitable for a variety of occasions, ranging from quiet weeknight dinners to celebratory gatherings with friends and family.
Community Integration: Being situated on Fair Street places Chleo at the heart of Kingston’s vibrant cultural district. The restaurant actively participates in the local ecosystem, contributing to the neighborhood's reputation as a destination for those who value quality, creativity, and hospitality.
The approach to service at Chleo is equally intentional. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive, aiming to guide guests through their dining experience with a sense of warmth that complements the high standard of the kitchen. This holistic approach ensures that the focus remains on the guest, creating a seamless transition from the moment one enters the door until the final course is served.
A Destination for Culinary Enthusiasts
In an era where dining options are abundant, Chleo distinguishes itself through a steadfast dedication to its core values. It does not rely on trends or gimmicks; instead, it relies on the consistency of its output and the genuine hospitality of its team. For those traveling through the Hudson Valley, it serves as a reminder of the richness that can be found in local, thoughtfully prepared food. The restaurant invites you to experience a menu that is both familiar and surprising, served in a setting that honors the history and character of Kingston.
As you plan your next visit to the area, consider Chleo as a place to pause and enjoy the artistry of the kitchen. It is more than just a location on a map; it is a vital part of the local food culture that continues to grow and thrive. We look forward to welcoming you to our table, where the focus is always on the quality of the ingredients, the skill of the preparation, and the pleasure of sharing a meal in good company.

I'd give this restaurant a solid 4 out of 5, comfortably above average. The dishes were expertly cooked overall. My only qualm was that the pork chop had an unexpected popcorn flavor, which wasn't to my liking. Nonetheless, it's a delightful spot for dinner. More

It’s rare that every dish I order wows me, and I was so pleased that Chleo achieved that!
1. Little Gem Salad, Buttermilk Dressing, Radishes, Toasted Seeds (not pictured) • 9/10
The greens were absolutely gorgeous, and the dressing was perfectly decadent while not being too heavy. My only critique is that I am a lover of seeds and nuts in everything, and it was seeded a little too heavily to the point that every bite was a little bit difficult to chew. This didn’t hinder my experience but it was definitely noticeable,
2. Spaghetti with agretti and anchovy • 10/10
This was so delicious. I had never had agretti before and I asked the waitress what it was, neither of us could quite figure it out even though I was googling it while we were talking. The balance in flavor and texture of this dish was incredible. Anchovy can be so overpowering and it was used perfectly here, just as an addition to the depth of the sauce.
3. Kingston Bread & Bar Sourdough + Cultured butter • 9/10
I will never get over how good this bread is. The crust to soft inside ratio is perfect, and the sourness from the sourdough is just right. My only criticism here is that the bread is $5 and the butter is $2. I understand these are local and well made foods but in my opinion the bread should come with butter. I’d be happy to pay for them as a unit it just seems silly to order a side of butter. This is probably on the menu like this because there are other things you can buy to add to the bread (cheese, pate, etc) but still, the bread should come with butter.
Overall this was a really amazing experience and I’m so excited to come back when I visit Kingston again!

Delightful! Best service we've had in a while, coupled with an imaginative menu with plenty of vegetarian options. We shared a few small plates, entrees, deserts and wine and were surprised at the reasonable cost for all of that. Will be back for sure. Too busy enjoying for more photos. More
