Our family’s favorite Chinese restaurant. We come every 2-3 weeks if not more often. Our favorites are the Dry Chili Chicken, Tony’s Three Chili Shrimp, Dan Dan Noodles, Fu Xi Fei Pian (Sliced Beef & Maw Szechuan Style - Cold Appetizer), Salt & Pepper Scallop, Chengdu Kung Pao Chicken, and Hot & Sour soup.
All these dishes are mildly to fairly spicy except for the Salt & Pepper (not really spicy, but crispy and delicious). If you like spicy 🌶️ this place is for you. If you like their signature Dry Chilli Chicken, they can make it in almost any other meat choice (beef, pork, lamb, shrimp, squid, etc). Also love the complimentary spicy cabbage appetizer. 😋 Free street parking and lot on the weekends is a plus. Taste is always on point and reminds me of the original Lao Sze Chuan in Chinatown square but without the traffic/parking struggles. Service is great too!

I get that Chinese Restaurants get overwhelmed on Christmas Eve. I get that sometimes you forget to turn ordering off and what was supposed to be a 60 min wait turns into a 3.5 hour one. Things happen and restaurants get short-staffed on … More

They get two stars for service and for deception. They make good food. No doubt about it but new ownership is awful. Only 2 employees to service the place and they never answer the phone and can only order online. Their website no longer allows for orders so you must use Doordash but their doordash account has the same pricing for delivery and pick up. My last pick up had me seeing a large CHOW NOW menu at the front of the store that you can order to go orders from and to my eyes the pricing was $3 less for each item when compared to DoorDash for pick up. I basically paid $20+ more than I had to. When I brought this to their attention they had no response and said I can use their app to order. Really? How about notifying customers to order through Chow Now. How about getting your website working? I am going to SKOKIE location from now on. I am DONE with this location.

Lao Sze Chuan is a Chicago classic. If you like Chinese food and especially Sichuan cuisine the this is an amazing spot. This is the best authentic Chinese in the area, otherwise you will go to Chinatown. Also very generous portion size.
I recommend:
Shrimp dumplings
Chefs dry chili chicken
Fish fillet in chili bean sauce
Boiled sole fish in spicy Szechuan sauce
I’ll be coming back again.

The worst management and costumer service we’ve had in a very long time. After waiting for 2 hours on Christmas Eve for our pick up order that we placed an 2 days ahead, we ended up canceling it and had to pick up fast food instead. We have been dining at the different Lao Sze Chuan locations for over a decade, but the Highland Park location is truly disappointing.

Terrible experience with pickup. Quoted 15 minutes ended but being 40 minutes. Several people standing around waiting for orders. The restaurant continued to accept orders from mobile platforms while being backed up. Several people just walked out. People in the dining room were getting their own carry out boxes and begging to settle their tabs. They clearly need additional help in the front and back of the house

The hospitality here is excellent. The staff was warm, welcoming, and so attentive the entire time. The food was outstanding with bold, rich flavors in every single dish. Everything was fresh, authentic, and perfectly seasoned.
The best part? We don’t have to drive all the way into the city for authentic Chinese food.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for amazing food, great service, and an overall wonderful dining experience.
