I finally got a chance to check out Roux in Hyde Park on a weekend brunch and honestly, I walked away really impressed. Right from the moment I walked in, it had this warm, inviting breakfast-meets-Southern-diner vibe that made me feel … More

Had an excellent dish of shrimp and grits! The grits were super creamy and the shrimp was perfectly cooked in a mild Cajun sauce. The atmosphere was cool, bit of a 1800’s Parisian cafe vibe going on. The food came fast and warm and the … More

Looking for a good breakfast spot in Chicago and I came across this little gem!! While the cashier’s vibe seemed a bit off, the ordering was easy, and the seating was smooth as you take your number and find a place to sit. The wait wasn’t … More

It was okay. The shrimp and grits were palatable. Good flavor, egg was cooked perfectly. Shrimp had no bite and were mushy somehow. Do not order those dusty saltines and Pimento cheese.. waste of time. 5 out of 10. Seating is open, grab your own water at a station which is convenient. More

Man this version of avocado toast with a sunny-side egg was banging definitely different. Had a homemade relish on it that's threw me off but on all great flavor. The ginormous cinnamon roll that was sitting next to it was fluffy gooey and soul flavorful. More

Dined in at Roux and had an amazing experience! I ordered the Shrimp and Grits with scrambled eggs, and it was everything I hoped for—succulent shrimp paired with creamy, perfectly cooked grits. The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, … More

I wanted to like this place because they had such high ratings, but unfortunately the food had no flavor. I also ordered two coffees, and they were not good either. I was really disappointed for spending $60. The people are nice, the place was clean, and it had great ambience. The food was just so-so. More

A modern and spacious place with delicious Southern flavors and an incredibly welcoming ambience. The beignet was warm and irresistibly fluffy, while the shrimp and grits were flavorful with a nice Cajun and garlic kick. For dessert, both the peanut butter cheesecake and the chocolate cookie were so yum. A lovely spot for enjoying Southern bites and either hanging out or getting some work done!

The food was ahhhhmazing! The service was even outstanding. We had shrimp and Grits, Grits with cheese and bacon added. The Fried Green Tomato Tartine was the most delicious open breakfast sandwich I've ever had. We carried out an order of beignets. We thought we were in Nola eating the beignets. Everything was soooo delicious. I can't wait to visit again.

Visited 12/15 morning. We got the brisket hash and catfish plate with deviled eggs and it was beautifully plated, but the taste was lacking. The catfish tasted of river. Not the fish nor the breading was seasoned. And the deviled eggs were decent enough. The brisket hash though, we got with and without the sauce and they were both pooled with unseasoned oil at the bottom. We tried with salt, pepper, and hot sauce and we still could not finish the hash and struggled with the catfish even with it drowned in hot sauce… aesthetically, it was great little cafe for small pastries (the beignets were GREAT) and the other pastry options looks delicious, but in reality, we were left disappointed and lowkey hungry still…

Roux is an excellent spot for brunch. Among others, we ordered Beignets, a tart, The Classic, and the Chicken Fried Steak. All of these tasted fresh and savory especially the green beans that came with the chicken fried steak. Roux is now officially my go to brunch spot for that area. Will be back!

We were looking for a quick and delicious breakfast place following an early U of Chicago appointment. This place was an easy 10 min walk from the hospital. It was pretty quiet for a Friday morning. Kind of a hybrid of ordering at the register / getting your own water, napkins, etc. with modified table service.
I ordered the fried green tomato tartine. Imagine a thick buttery toasted slice, covered with pimento cheese then topped with a lightly breaded tomato, thick applewood smoked bacon and a fried egg? Yeah. I had planed on stealing some of my husband's grits but I ate every last morsel and was just too full.
I will be there again since hospital visits are going to be a thing for a while. It's good to know this kind of comfort food is going to be serving it up all day.
FYI: the espresso lack the punch I typically am looking for.

Went for weekend brunch and was able to get seated fairly quickly. It had a comfy/farmhouse/communal vibe with the tables placed pretty closely together. There’s a high top narrow island with seating as well. There’s noise level was pretty high but not so noisy to where you couldn’t hear your party. My cousin and I went with the shrimp and grits and shared an order of beignets. The shrimp and grits were phenomenal and a nice portion. 10/10. The beignets were a 8/10 just because I visited New Orleans earlier this year and had the ones from Cafe Beignet which I enjoyed so much more. The beignets here are still soft and pillowy and I would likely order again. I saw on the menu that they have fried green tomatoes as part of a specific dish but I really wish they offered them as a side. I haven’t had fried green tomatoes in forever and I just know they would’ve paired nicely with the grits. I hope the chef/owner sees this review and consider making it a possibility! All in all, we have already said that we’ll be back so I’m looking forward to my next visit.

Order at the front and get seated. Not super busy and good interior seating. Food came out fast. Quantity is okay, but food all tasted good.
