Discovering the Authentic Taste of Naples in Chicago
Located in the heart of the Ravenswood neighborhood at 1769 W Sunnyside Ave, Chicago, IL 60640, Spacca Napoli Pizzeria stands as a dedicated tribute to the time-honored traditions of Italian pizza making. This establishment is not merely a place to eat; it is a culinary destination that seeks to transport its guests directly to the vibrant streets of Naples. By focusing on the integrity of ingredients and the precision of ancient techniques, the restaurant has cultivated a reputation for excellence that resonates with both local residents and visitors seeking a genuine gastronomic experience.
The philosophy behind Spacca Napoli Pizzeria is rooted in the belief that great pizza is a harmonious balance of simplicity and craftsmanship. Every element, from the sourcing of flour and tomatoes to the careful management of the wood-burning oven, is handled with meticulous attention to detail. The atmosphere within the restaurant reflects this commitment, offering a warm and inviting space where the focus remains entirely on the quality of the food and the shared experience of a well-prepared meal. It serves as a bridge between the rich history of Southern Italian cuisine and the contemporary dining landscape of Chicago.
Key Elements of the Spacca Napoli Experience
Commitment to Traditional Methods: The kitchen adheres strictly to the artisanal practices that define Neapolitan pizza. This includes the use of high-quality, imported ingredients and a fermentation process that allows the dough to develop its characteristic texture and flavor profile, ensuring a light and airy crust that is both crisp and tender.
The Art of the Wood-Fired Oven: At the center of the culinary process is the wood-burning oven, which is essential for achieving the specific char and temperature required for authentic pizza. The intense, dry heat allows the crust to blister perfectly while keeping the toppings fresh and vibrant, a hallmark of the Neapolitan style.
Sourcing and Ingredient Integrity: The menu is built upon a foundation of seasonal and high-quality components. By prioritizing relationships with producers who share a dedication to quality, the restaurant ensures that every topping, from the creamy mozzarella to the aromatic basil and savory cured meats, contributes to a cohesive and balanced flavor experience.
A Welcoming Community Atmosphere: Beyond the food, Spacca Napoli Pizzeria prides itself on fostering a sense of community. The dining room is designed to encourage conversation and connection, making it an ideal setting for families, friends, and anyone who appreciates the slow, deliberate pace of a traditional Italian meal.
A Culinary Journey Worth Taking
Choosing where to dine in a city as diverse as Chicago can be a daunting task, yet Spacca Napoli Pizzeria offers a clear and compelling choice for those who value authenticity. By maintaining a steadfast focus on the heritage of Naples, the restaurant provides more than just a meal; it offers a moment of respite and a genuine connection to Italian culture. Whether you are a long-time enthusiast of wood-fired pizza or someone looking to explore the nuances of traditional Italian cooking, a visit to this Ravenswood landmark promises a memorable encounter with quality and passion.
As you plan your next outing in the city, consider the experience offered at 1769 W Sunnyside Ave. It is a testament to what can be achieved when a kitchen remains true to its roots while operating within the vibrant context of a modern urban environment. We invite you to experience the dedication, the heat of the oven, and the simple joy of a perfectly crafted pizza that honors the legacy of its origins.

Spacca Napoli Pizzeria is a must-visit if you love true Neapolitan-style pizza. The crust is the star — soft, airy, and slightly charred from the wood-fired oven, with that perfect chewy bite. I tried a classic Margherita and it was … More

Every single time I leave here having eaten more than I should have because it is so damned good.
The oil chili sauce is a must. The pizza is unique and probably one of the best in chicago … but not because it is a deep dish. It’s amazing and so packed when we visit every single time.

Getting there on Sunday at 2pm and seeing the place full should say it all. But when you notice that 3 tables around you are speaking Italian, then there is no doubt, this place is good! If Italians like it, it is because it is authentic. … More

A laid-back neighborhood gem serving top-notch Neapolitan-style pizza. The crust was light and fluffy across the board, and the fig pizza stood out as a crowd favorite with its perfect balance of sweet fig and pistachio. The octopus salad … More

The service is great. I had pizza & beer. The beer as recommended was great. Sadly, the pizza was just average and had excessive salt. The genuinely Italian neopolitan pizza I've had has been at "Il Canale" near Georgetown Univ.
Overall, I'd go there as they are a great bunch. I'll try other dishes on my next trip. More

Outstanding neopolitan pizza at a great value. Spacca Napoli feels elevated, but is suitable for both special occasions and casual lunches.
Sat on the patio for a Sunday lunch in the summer. No need for a reservation at this time, but would recommend one for evenings. Patio is a quintessential Chicago sidewalk patio vibe, but the interior is terrific as well.
Fresh flavors and quality ingredients here. I tried the multigrain crust which was recommended by our server. Pies can certainly be treated as a personal pizza if you’re hungry! 🤤

I feel lucky to live close to this place! Best pizza I've had outside of Naples. The crust is superb and takes on a bit of the wood perfume from the oven. Had a diavola today but when I come with a group I'm a and have to try a slice off of everyone's plate. More

Been meaning to try this place for years. Took some out of town friends and it was excellent. The arinchini was amazing. There were enticing specials. I had a wonderful white pizza with ricotta, red onions, and black pepper. The hubby had a shrimp pizza with a red pepper sauce that was beautiful! More

I drift back to this corner
every few years or so,
not because I forget it
but because life makes me slow.
Yet every time I wander in,
the reason’s clear as day,
for pizza from this brick oven
is worth the trip, the wait, the way.
The crust is hand-shaped beauty,
light and tender, crisp and warm,
with toppings that feel thoughtful
in both flavor and in form.
The salads are a dreamland,
fresh and simple, clean and fine,
the kind you think about again
long after dinnertime.
A casual, happy haven,
no pretense, only heart
Spacca Napoli reminds me
why pizza is an art.

The pizza special I had (pork shoulder slices with small chunks of potato) was delicious, especially with the multigrain crust. My partner enjoyed his fungi pizza. We shared the tartufu dessert. We loved all of it. We don't get here a lot because of the reservation system they have (which is understandable). So it always feels like a special occasion when we do.

Spacca Napoli lives up to its reputation as one of Chicago’s best Neapolitan pizza spots. The pizzas are beautifully balanced—soft, airy crust with just the right amount of char, high-quality ingredients, and classic flavors done right. The Margherita is a standout, with bright tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil, while the Diavola has a great kick without overpowering the dough.
Beyond pizza, the menu feels thoughtfully curated, and the atmosphere is warm and unpretentious—lively but still comfortable for a relaxed meal. Service is friendly and efficient, even when the place is busy. It’s the kind of spot you’d happily return to again and again, whether you’re a pizza purist or just craving something genuinely well made.

My wife and I had a spectacular dinner at Spacca Napoli. We have had many friends who have been here and we, after many years of hearing it's accolades, finally made it to this delicious pizzeria. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, immediately smelling like yeast and the ol' country upon entry. The staff and out server were very friendly and th right kind of casual.
And most importantly, the food was marvelous, especially the Pistachio Pesto pizza. We finished off the night with some cannolis.
Can't recommend enough, this spot may become a regular haunt.
