Located in the heart of Honolulu at 1000 Auahi St Suite 134, Tonkatsu Kuro stands as a dedicated destination for those who appreciate the meticulous craft of Japanese breaded pork cutlets. In a city known for its diverse culinary landscape, this establishment focuses on a singular, refined vision: elevating the humble tonkatsu into a memorable dining experience. The philosophy behind the kitchen is rooted in the belief that simplicity, when executed with care, yields the most satisfying results. By sourcing high-quality pork and utilizing a specialized frying process, the chefs ensure that every cutlet achieves a delicate balance—a golden, crispy exterior that gives way to tender, succulent meat. This commitment to the craft is evident from the moment you step into the space, where the aroma of freshly prepared dishes sets the stage for a meal that feels both authentic and approachable. It is a place where the noise of the city fades away, replaced by the quiet appreciation of a well-prepared meal served with genuine hospitality.
Why Tonkatsu Kuro Stands Out
Precision in Preparation: Every cutlet is prepared with an emphasis on temperature control and timing, ensuring the panko breadcrumbs reach the perfect level of crispness without compromising the moisture of the pork.

Authentic Culinary Approach: By adhering to traditional Japanese preparation methods, the restaurant offers a dining experience that honors the history and techniques associated with this classic dish.
Inviting Atmosphere: Situated in a convenient and accessible location, the restaurant provides a comfortable setting that is suitable for casual lunches, relaxed dinners, or a quick break during a busy day of exploring Honolulu.
Beyond the signature pork cutlets, the experience at Tonkatsu Kuro is defined by the attention to detail in every component of the meal. From the accompanying shredded cabbage, which provides a necessary crisp freshness, to the carefully balanced dipping sauces that enhance the savory notes of the pork, every element is designed to complement the main dish. The staff understands the importance of pacing and service, ensuring that guests feel welcomed and well-attended to throughout their visit. This holistic approach to dining is what transforms a simple meal into a restorative experience, making it a notable addition to the local food scene.

It was the first time we went in a tonkatsu restaurant and it was a really good experience.
The panko was incredibly crunchy and light, and the meat super tender and juicy 🤤. The cabbage was really good to balance the fat of the fried meat and it comes with rice and a miso soup.
It is a little bit pricier than other Japanese restaurants but you got free cabbage / rice / miso soup refills ( around 30-40$ per person) so worth the price, and the ordering station was really easy to use 👌🏾
We didn’t order the soba but they seemed like a must try
My wife and I really enjoyed it 👍🏾

Huge katsu portions! The soba was delicious and refreshing. There are delivery robots up and about which do affect the atmosphere, but the food is absolutely delicious More

We really enjoyed eating here. When we went it was BYOB, which might change if they get a liquor license. The restaurant is in a new space and you can order via tablets on the table. The food is wheeled out by robots and then served by the … More

Not impressed! Besides the nice atmosphere and waiter/waitresses with robot, food was just mediocre. Breading is too thick, you barely can taste the meat. They dont have many selection. Either loin katsu or shrimp katsu, cabbage, pickles … More

This is the real tonkatsu and soba. Tonkatsu is tender, crispy and juicy. Soba tsuyu soup is the best ever.
Modern and spacious circumstance. Background music is not bothering conversation. High ball is too. It is the best tonkatsu place in Hawaii. More

I’ve eaten a lot of tonkatsu in my life—greasy dives in Tokyo alleyways, pristine counters in Ginza—but there’s something about the pork loin tonkatsu here that hits me right in the gut, in the best way. It’s juicier than the tenderloin, … More

This is one of the best places I've ever had tonkatsu! The katsu was so tender it melted in your mouth and the portions are very generous. The in house sauces and dressings perfectly complemented the tonkatsu and shredded cabbage. Staff was amazing and attentive. Dar took great care us on both of our visits! Can't wait to come back. Food was delicious. Got the pork loin and loin katsu, with a side of shrimp katsu. Everything was nice and juicy with a great crunch without feeling greasy and heavy. The sauces were yummy but that tartar sauce was my favorite by far. I loved the free refills on the cabbage, rice, and miso soup. 10/10 will recommend and will be back! More
