Nestled in the charming community of Oneonta, New York, Toscana Northern Italian Grill stands as a welcoming destination for those seeking an authentic culinary experience. Located at 76 Chestnut St, this establishment has become a familiar landmark for residents and visitors alike who appreciate the nuances of traditional Italian cooking. The restaurant prides itself on creating an atmosphere that balances casual comfort with the refined sensibilities of Northern Italian gastronomy, making it a suitable choice for everything from quiet weeknight dinners to celebratory gatherings with friends and family.
The philosophy behind the kitchen at Toscana is rooted in the appreciation of high-quality ingredients and time-honored preparation methods. Northern Italian cuisine is distinct for its focus on rich, savory flavors, often utilizing butter, cream, and fresh herbs rather than the tomato-heavy profiles found in Southern Italian cooking. By focusing on these regional traditions, the restaurant offers a menu that feels both sophisticated and deeply satisfying. Every dish is approached with a commitment to consistency, ensuring that the essence of the region is captured in every plate served to the table.
Beyond the food, the restaurant serves as a gathering place that reflects the spirit of Oneonta. The interior is designed to provide a warm, inviting backdrop where conversation flows as easily as the wine. Whether you are a local regular or someone passing through the scenic landscapes of Upstate New York, the team at Toscana strives to provide a hospitable environment where guests feel genuinely welcomed. It is this combination of culinary dedication and community focus that defines the identity of the grill.
What Defines the Toscana Experience
Regional Culinary Focus: The menu is carefully curated to highlight the unique characteristics of Northern Italian cuisine, emphasizing delicate sauces, fresh pasta, and high-quality proteins that reflect the culinary heritage of regions like Lombardy and Piedmont.
Commitment to Quality Ingredients: The kitchen prioritizes the selection of fresh, seasonal components, believing that the integrity of a dish begins with the quality of its raw materials. This dedication ensures that each meal maintains a high standard of flavor and presentation.
Welcoming Atmosphere: Located in a historic part of Oneonta, the restaurant offers a comfortable and relaxed setting. The design is intended to make guests feel at ease, whether they are visiting for a special occasion or a simple, well-prepared meal at the end of a long day.
Professional Hospitality: The service team is dedicated to providing a seamless dining experience, offering attentive care that respects the guest's time while ensuring that every need is met with professionalism and a friendly demeanor.

This is the best restaurant in the area. The food is delicious and the service is great. The restaurant is fully renovated and very clean. I can’t recommend the penne vodka, eggplant parm, & canoli’s enough. Everything we have eaten at this restaurant has not disappointed. More

This place was amazing!
So happy that we visited here. The place is very modern and sleek. A nice clean and elegant feel immediately upon entry. The host quickly sat us at a nice table and told us a few items that were available for that night.
Then our waitress came and introduced herself. Her name was Shelby. She was very patient, and helped us navigate the menu for drinks, appetizers, and main entrees. She was very insightful and provided us with exceptional service. The food was incredible. Everything was so full flavor and very nicely presented. I only wish that this place was closer by, I would definitely frequent here.
I highly recommend this restaurant if you happen to be in town. You will not be disappointed.

Random find while looking for an italian restaurant in Oneonta, NY. So lucky we choose this place. A hidden gem. This place had it all ambience, attentive and professional service and the FOOD! Soo good we made reservations for the next night. Highly recommend making reservations as we lucked out the first time as walk-ins because there was seating at the bar. The place gets packed and once you try it you will understand why. The drinks were on point, creative and smoothly delicious. The appetizers; specials and entree options were unique and full of flavor. You taste the quality ingredients and the attention to detail given to each dish. Honorable mentions: Coconut Mojito; Calamari; Meatballs; Vodka sauce (available to go); Carbonara pasta with breaded chicken cutlet; Rustic Bolognese, Filet Mignon cooked to perfection! But pace yourself for dessert a most deliciously filling Cremebrulee!
Our family is looking forward to visit the next time we are in town. Thank you for the amazing service Genevieve!

Toscana is definitely a fan favorite among locals, and while I’ve had some good experiences, I do think a bit more flavor would go a long way. I usually order the eggplant parm with penne noodles—everything is cooked well, but the sauce could use a little more depth/flavor. My husband had ordered a special app and entree - both were okay. On the plus side, the cocktails are tasty, and I’d definitely recommend the espresso martini!
The last time we dined in, we had a reservation for a special occasion, but unfortunately, the hostess had the wrong date down and we ended up sitting at the bar. Thankfully, the bartender/server was fantastic and really helped turn the experience around.
I’ve heard great things from friends about other dishes on the menu, so I do plan to go back and try something different—I love supporting local spots! It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the mood for something a little more upscale!

I’m going to leave a five star view because the experience was good. The atmosphere was good. The service was good. The crabcakes with risotto were excellent probably better than I’ve had in Maryland. Risotto was cooked perfectly as well. The pork belly appetizer was done properly very good only thing they should give you a sharp knife, not a butter knife to eat it with.. The roast duck on the other hand was not roasted. It was deep fried and dried to the bone, and it was the most expensive thing on the menu. So dry It was in edible. Not sure of the thinking why they would sell a $45 plate duck deep-fried no seasoning just burnt. But the rest of the food was excellent and I would return just don’t order the duck. I give a five star review because I promote vocal businesses and from many things they deserve it, but I hope the owner takes time to read this from you about the duck and address the issue. The place was exceptionally clean as well.

The menu highlights traditional Italian fare. I was initially disappointed that the restaurant couldn't make a rather simple request a reality. After speaking with the chef, our amazing waitress, Olivia shared that they were indeed able to do what I asked. The food was delicious! You definitely want to call ahead for a reservation!
