Located at 5 Doyers St, New York, NY 10013, Chinese Tuxedo stands as a sophisticated bridge between the storied history of Manhattan’s Chinatown and the contemporary evolution of modern Chinese cuisine. The restaurant is housed in a building that once served as the home of the Chinese Opera House, a site steeped in local lore and cultural significance. By blending the architectural charm of this historic space with a refined, elevated approach to dining, Chinese Tuxedo offers an atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and distinctly forward-looking. It is a destination that invites guests to step away from the bustling energy of the city streets and into a space where culinary craftsmanship and heritage converge.
The philosophy behind the kitchen is rooted in the pursuit of high-quality ingredients and the thoughtful reinterpretation of traditional flavors. Rather than adhering to a single regional style, the menu explores a diverse landscape of Chinese culinary traditions, refined for the modern palate. Every dish is prepared with a focus on balance, texture, and depth, ensuring that the dining experience is as intellectually engaging as it is satisfying. Whether you are a long-time resident of New York or a visitor seeking an authentic yet elevated taste of the city’s cultural fabric, Chinese Tuxedo provides a setting that honors its surroundings while pushing the boundaries of what a neighborhood restaurant can achieve.

The food was incredible, the service fast, and friendly. This space was gorgeous - the former Chinese Opera House - thanks Chinese Tuxedo for the best celebration for Lunar New Year!!!
There were birthday parties and influencers taking pictures. We had the $88 banquet menu and the amount of food was obscene! Definitely stuffed after our meal. The oxtail buns, and hakashi crudo were divine starters. Also we ordered a burrata and cruller appetizer that was wow. Finishing with noodles, and fish and beef we were so full. But there's always room for dessert. They brought out two desserts! Everything so delicious. Gung Hay Phat Choy - Happy New Year and happy money everybody

The best part about this spot is the atmosphere. It's beautifully decorated and has a charming yet not too excessively classy vibe. Food-wise, I found most things were decent, although some were a bit too fusion-y for my personal taste. The most memorable meal was the XO crab butter noodles. Otherwise, the service was very attentive. I'd still recommend it if you're looking for an elegant place to try, although if you're looking for traditional Chinese cuisine, this place is not it.

All the dishes were seriously so good! Three of us loved everything and our favorites were the fried eggplant and squid noodles. They do an amazing job with fried dishes! Lit every single one we tried was incredible. Definitely one of my favorite Chinese spots in the city. The portion was p small so recommend ordering multiple dishes. We got 4 appetizers, 3 main, and 2 desserts for three people and was a good amount

If I’m being honest, the atmosphere and service were amazing, but the vegetarian food was not that great. We ordered for around 10-11 dishes (photos in the review), and it looks quite good. So, presentation is a 10/10 too.
Out of all the vegetarian dishes, the Burrata was the best. The cocktails were nice too. I would not recommend the tofu dish at all, we didn’t enjoy it. The eggplant dish was good.
So, in all I would say go for the non vegetarian dishes.

I had to leave a review after having the most amazing experience here this weekend. It was my husband’s birthday and they were able to squeeze us in on a busy Saturday night. The service was outstanding — Ashley was our waitress and the hosts at the front were exceptionally kind and helpful (particularly the man in the sparkly jacket but we didn’t catch his name sadly).
On top of the service, the food was spectacular. Our waitress helped us choose a variety of shareable dishes and each one was phenomenal. I have pics of the half duck, dan dan noodles, and lobster noodles. We also ate the pork and chive dumplings, fried rice, sirloin, and fried eggplant. There isn’t any dish I wouldn’t recommend or get again!

This was absolutely AMAZING! We had the best waiter, Karina, who was so kind and patient. We had two dietary restrictions celiac disease and vegetarian. We got two separate menus with just gluten free and vegetarian options. The inside is absolutely beautiful in here. The food was so delicious. Karina recommended the eggplant which is something we never would have gotten and it turned to be one of the tastiest things I ever had. Karina also shared interesting history of the restaurant which was cool to learn about. Thank you so much Chinese Tuxedo for being so great and having an exclusive menu!
