Discovering the Essence of Dorlan's Tavern & Oyster Bar
Nestled in the historic heart of Lower Manhattan at 213 Front St, New York, NY 10038, Dorlan's Tavern & Oyster Bar stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the city's culinary landscape. This establishment captures the unique intersection of New York's maritime heritage and the modern appetite for refined, approachable dining. For those wandering through the cobblestone streets of the Seaport District, the tavern offers a welcoming sanctuary that feels both deeply rooted in local history and perfectly attuned to the contemporary rhythm of the neighborhood.
The atmosphere at Dorlan's is defined by a balance of warmth and sophistication. It is the kind of place where the architecture tells a story, reflecting the maritime legacy of the surrounding area while providing a comfortable backdrop for meaningful conversation. Whether you are a long-time resident of New York or a visitor seeking an authentic taste of the city's coastal influence, the tavern serves as a communal hub that celebrates the simple joy of a well-prepared meal shared in good company.
What Sets Dorlan's Apart
A Commitment to Coastal Traditions: The menu is thoughtfully curated to honor the bounty of the sea, emphasizing fresh, high-quality ingredients that reflect the seasonal availability of the Atlantic coast. Each dish is prepared with a focus on highlighting natural flavors rather than over-complicating the plate.
Historic Location and Ambiance: Situated in the iconic Seaport District, the tavern benefits from its proximity to the waterfront. The interior design pays homage to the area's nautical past, creating an environment that feels timeless, inviting, and distinctly New York.
A Focus on Community and Hospitality: At its core, Dorlan's is built on the philosophy of genuine hospitality. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that every guest feels at home, fostering an environment where the service is attentive without being intrusive, making it an ideal spot for both casual gatherings and quiet evenings.
Balanced Culinary Approach: Beyond the raw bar and seafood selections, the kitchen maintains a versatile approach, offering a variety of options that cater to diverse preferences. This commitment to variety ensures that the tavern remains a reliable destination for a wide range of dining occasions.
The Culinary Philosophy
At the heart of the experience at Dorlan's Tavern & Oyster Bar is a dedication to the craft of cooking. The culinary team approaches each ingredient with respect, understanding that the best results come from sourcing quality produce and seafood and treating them with care. This philosophy extends to the entire dining experience, where the goal is to provide a sense of comfort and satisfaction that lingers long after the meal is finished. By focusing on the fundamentals of flavor and texture, the tavern avoids passing trends in favor of enduring, classic preparations that resonate with a wide audience.
The beverage program is similarly curated to complement the food, featuring a selection that pairs well with the coastal-inspired menu. From crisp whites that cut through the richness of oysters to robust options that stand up to heartier tavern fare, the drinks list is designed to enhance the overall experience. This holistic approach to dining—where food, drink, and atmosphere are given equal weight—is what allows Dorlan's to maintain its reputation as a staple of the Front Street corridor.
A Destination for Every Occasion
Whether you find yourself in the Seaport District for business, leisure, or a spontaneous exploration of New York City, Dorlan's Tavern & Oyster Bar offers a reliable and memorable experience. It is a place that invites you to slow down, enjoy the surroundings, and appreciate the simple pleasure of a meal prepared with integrity. As the city continues to evolve around it, the tavern remains a steadfast anchor, preserving the charm and character that make this corner of Manhattan so special. We invite you to visit and discover the unique blend of history, hospitality, and culinary tradition that defines this local landmark.

Very friendly service and food was great! Place smelled like old beer on the floor but aside from that, we had a great dinner there. Plenty of screens to watch the game there too. More

Dorlan’s is the best! Expect a wait in the summer for prime outdoor Seaport seating but come into the bar for cozy New England pub vibes. The charbroiled oysters & Old Bay chicken tenders are always a hit, and the drink menu is well put together.

We were starving and this place was within walking distance so we chose it and stopped in. Very relaxed atmosphere and mostly bar food but it is pretty delicious. I ordered the calamari for an appetizer and the shrimp tacos. If you are just wanting a place to have drinks this would be a great spot!

Good place for a drink or two on weekends with friends. We went on a Saturday and we're expecting it to be packed, but it was at around 50% occupancy. We got a table easily and were served on the table. We tried oysters and couple of drinks. Oysters were not great but good (we had high expectations). Drinks were made well. More

Dorlan's, located in the historic South Street Seaport in New York City, is a fantastic spot that perfectly balances a classic pub atmosphere with high-quality food and drinks. I recently went there and was thoroughly impressed, especially by their take on comfort food classics.
My friends and I were craving something hearty, and we were not disappointed. We ordered a big chicken sandwich and a juicy burger to share, and both were outstanding. The chicken sandwich was a true showstopper—perfectly fried to a golden crisp while remaining incredibly moist and tender on the inside. It was a generous size and had a fantastic, flavorful crunch with every bite. The burger was equally impressive. It was cooked to a perfect medium, with a patty so juicy and rich that it practically melted in your mouth. The classic toppings and a toasted bun made for a flawless burger experience.
What made the meal even better were the sides and drinks. The fries were a perfect companion, hot and crispy, and just the right amount of salt. And the cocktails were excellent. We each had a few different ones, and they were all expertly mixed and well-balanced—they weren't just an afterthought but a highlight of the meal. The entire place has a warm and inviting vibe, and the staff was friendly and attentive. For a spot that feels like a cozy neighborhood tavern but serves up incredible, elevated pub fare and great drinks, Dorlan's is a definite winner.

Cool place with a modern but relaxed vibe. The space is open and airy with lots of high tables and a long bar. The house IPA is worth a try and the menu (especially sea food) was impressive. Added bonus is a pool table in an adjoining room.

My favorite area of New York is the Financial District and after checking into my hotel I was starving. I was looking for coastal pub cuisine and Yelp helped me discover this great place. I loved the entire nautical vibe and stayed all afternoon as the happy hour crowds loaded in. What a fun place with great service and well portioned foods. Thank you for being my welcome back meal after 3 years of non-travel due to covid. I'm glad your open and ready to celebrate with me. I'll be back soon.

Cool spot at South Street Seaport. To my pleasant surprise, it is a very down to earth Tavern and not touristy at all. The service was good and The Charbroiled Oysters were 😋. I would definitely go back. Have gone back now on various occasions and I still enjoy it very much. The Charbroiled Oysters are always delicious but the other day they were exceptional. They were very plump and flavorful. The staff is very nice. This is definitely my go to when I go to The Seaport. I have revisited Dorlan's on various occasions since my original review. I feel very welcomed each time I go. I enjoy talking with the bartenders and the staff, they are all very pleasant. The Charbroiled Oysters are as 😋 as always and they make a wonderful Watermelon Margarita. Update: 4/23/23. Still love this place. I hadn't gone back since September and the bartenders and the staff still remembered my name. It truly is a great Restaurant Bar to visit in The Seaport.

An oasis while touring South St Seaport. The bar is in a historic building that has real character. A warming place on a cold day to get great beer and shots, and great food. I had the calamari: superb, very fresh and plentiful. While visiting South St Seaport this bar may not be the easiest to find, one block back from the waterfront, but make sure you find it! Great service by Marlene the bar server.

I had a post marathon celebration at Dorlan's after the NYC marathon this year. The food was great, service was amazing (especially Jeanne), and we had a perfect time! We had a bigger-than-expected crowd come to the party and we were able to just flood into the common room which ended up working out great! Would recommend having a party here and I will most definitely be having more in the future!

Place is great - year round. An NYC Seaport staple. Food and service is awesome. We went here after walking around the pier for dinner. Ordered the calamari, fish and chips and al pastor tacos. Also got a spicy margarita and a beer. We sat outside since I had my puppy with me. The server was nice to bring out a separate container of water for my puppy to drink. The tavern wasn’t busy at all so was surprised that it took some time for us to get our food. Other than that, food was good and was a nice night to eat outside.

I came with low expectations on a Sun eve, and walked away impressed. Solid 4.2 here.
They started me off on the flavored house popcorn, within the first 2 minutes, which set the pace for my speedy (roadrunner) experience.
The mango avocado salad appeared in like 60 seconds after ordered, was mostly arugula with a smattering of mango and tomatoes - Dorlans must have felt the recent tariff hit on the avos so really hard to track down, or maybe just didn't have time - good healthy taste overall.
The fish n chips was very good, good beer batter and fresh fish. Now if I could only replace those skinny fries with British fat fries...
Overall, recommended. I'll be back to sample more of that menu.

I’ve been here a few times with the family, and the food has been excellent during previous visits, which is why we chose to return recently.
Most of the dishes were great, but unfortunately, the hamburger sliders were severely undercooked. One of the servers (not the one attending to us) took the sliders back with the intention of correcting the raw patties, only to return with them still undercooked. It appeared they put our half-chewed sliders back into the oven or a plate to try to cook them, but they were still raw.
We had to tell the server that we did not want the raw ground beef patties.
Our actual server was friendly and took the sliders off our bill.
We will be returning, but likely will not be trying the sliders again.
