Discovering the Essence of Szechwan North in Glenview
Located at 2857 Pfingsten Rd, Glenview, IL 60026, Szechwan North stands as a dedicated destination for those seeking the bold, complex, and vibrant flavors of authentic Sichuan cuisine. In a culinary landscape often dominated by generalized interpretations of Chinese food, this establishment prides itself on staying true to the traditional techniques and flavor profiles that define the Sichuan province. The restaurant offers a welcoming environment where the focus remains squarely on the quality of ingredients and the precision of the kitchen staff. Whether you are a long-time enthusiast of spicy, numbing peppercorn dishes or a newcomer curious about the depth of regional Chinese cooking, the kitchen aims to provide an experience that feels both genuine and memorable.
The philosophy at Szechwan North is rooted in the belief that great food begins with respect for heritage. By utilizing classic preparation methods, the chefs work to balance the famous "mala" sensation—the combination of spicy chili heat and the signature tingly sensation of Sichuan peppercorns—with the subtle, savory undertones that make this cuisine so globally revered. Every dish served at the Pfingsten Road location is crafted with the intention of transporting diners to the bustling streets of Chengdu, offering a sensory journey that highlights the intricate layers of garlic, ginger, fermented bean paste, and aromatic oils that are the hallmarks of the region.
What Sets Szechwan North Apart
Commitment to Authentic Flavor Profiles: The kitchen prioritizes the use of traditional spices and authentic seasoning techniques, ensuring that every plate reflects the true spirit of Sichuan culinary arts rather than simplified versions.
Focus on Ingredient Quality: By sourcing fresh produce and high-quality proteins, the restaurant ensures that the complexity of their sauces and marinades is supported by a solid foundation of fresh, wholesome ingredients.
A Welcoming Atmosphere for All: Situated in the heart of Glenview, the restaurant provides a comfortable and inviting space suitable for family gatherings, casual dinners, or anyone looking to explore new culinary horizons in a relaxed setting.
Expertise in Regional Techniques: The culinary team brings a deep understanding of the specific heat levels and texture balances required to execute classic Sichuan dishes, providing a consistent and high-quality dining experience for every guest.
Beyond the individual dishes, Szechwan North serves as a community hub for food lovers in the Glenview area. The restaurant understands that dining out is not just about sustenance, but about the shared experience of discovery. By maintaining a menu that honors the diversity of Sichuan cooking—ranging from delicate, aromatic preparations to the more robust, fiery classics—the establishment caters to a wide spectrum of palates. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that every visitor feels welcomed, providing attentive service that complements the bold flavors emerging from the kitchen. It is this combination of culinary integrity and genuine hospitality that continues to define the reputation of the restaurant within the local community.
As you explore the menu, you will find that the diversity of the offerings allows for a customized dining experience. Whether you prefer a communal meal shared among friends or a quiet evening enjoying a signature dish, the environment is designed to accommodate various needs. For those residing in or visiting the Glenview area, Szechwan North remains a noteworthy stop for anyone interested in experiencing the authentic, multifaceted world of Sichuan gastronomy.
Ultimately, the goal at Szechwan North is to foster a deeper appreciation for the nuances of regional Chinese cooking. By remaining steadfast in their approach to traditional recipes and flavor balancing, the restaurant provides a reliable and exciting option for those who value authenticity. We invite you to visit us at 2857 Pfingsten Rd to experience firsthand the passion and precision that go into every meal. Whether you are a frequent patron or a first-time guest, there is always something new to discover within the rich, aromatic traditions of our kitchen. We look forward to serving you and sharing the vibrant, bold, and comforting tastes that make Sichuan cuisine a truly unique culinary treasure.

I enjoyed a pleasant Saturday evening meal with my parents who are kind of regulars here. We had the place to ourselves, and I entertained myself with politically incorrect thoughts about the physical health of the folks going in and out of the BBQ joint next door while I haughtily enjoyed my vegetable plate and a tasty "vegetable chicken" (see picture; a thick mushroom sliced and wrapped to give a passing resemblance to a processed chicken patty). My dad ate almost all of his Mongolian beef, which is a good sign he liked it.

Have not been here since pandemic, seems owner and staff have changed. Decor remain same, food items on menu changed, price changed. Lots more like Chinese szechwan food, spicy and heavy tasting. Although those labeled as non spicy are good … More

Had the cold tendon appetizer, and lamb lunch special. It was amazing, difficult to explain the flavor complexity, spicy, anise, smokey. If your looking for something different definitely worth a go. Will be back for dinner.

My daughter and I arrived around 815. We were enjoying our meal (Cashew Nut Shrimp and Beef with Snow Peas) until our waitress asked us to hurry up because they were closing soon (signage said 930 and we were ushered out at 900). Another waitress stood over me as I was trying to calculate the tip. I walked out without tipping, and as much as I liked this place before, COVID portions were smaller than they were more expensive. Staff were pleasant until HALF AN HOUR before posted closing time. UPDATE - Dont know if it was the food, being rushed to finish our meal, or being so upset, but my daughter and I have been throwing up since we got home. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING!!!

Gluten free and safe! So happy I decided to check this place out! I mean I’ve only lived around the corner from it for 6 years! I’ve ordered two times in the past 48 hours and the food is outstanding! I’ve had the Gluten Free Honey FRIED sesame chicken and beef fried rice. Amazing! No cross contamination here! Thank goodness!

Highly recommended, the food there is very delicious! If you like Chinese food, I like spicy Sichuan style! There are also non-spicy ones, usually from 5 to 6 pm! Their store is super busy! I am a slower paced person, so I like to eat in the restaurant between 2-4 pm, and have an early dinner, so that I can enjoy my meal! The portion size there is also relatively large! If you can't finish it, you can take it home to eat! The waitresses there are beautiful and nice! It makes me feel very comfortable and the environment is beautiful! I hope my sharing will bring a better dining experience to you who see the comments! Love and peace

had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant! The flavors were bold, authentic, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The service was friendly and attentive, and the staff made great recommendations based on our preferences. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot for both casual meals and special occasions. If you're looking for real Szechuan flavors, this place is definitely worth a visit!

This is now our go to Chinese restaurant.
The food is authentic and very good, especially if you like it spicy. The dry chili chicken is excellent. Also, I've been searching for this soup that I used to get when I spent some time in Beijing, and I finally found it here. The beef in the Beef Noodle Soup Szechwan Style is a bit fatty for my personal taste, but that soup base is amazing. I love it. I'm looking forward to getting a Hot and Spicy pot the next time I dine there, everything we have had so far was excellent.

I wanted to give less stars but the food taste was overall good. But the meat and vegetable ratio was horrible and the order was wrong. Ordered Mongolian beef and Chef's special dry chili pork ribs. Instead I received fried bacon with green veggies, not even veggies some dried green whatever and lots of onion. I think there was like 5 pieces of meat. And the greens were dry and tasteless. And the Mongolian beef was half meat half onion. I don't know why they put sooo much onion, half of my food went to trash!

Always delicious and hot food! Customer service also receives high stars! I LOVE their Peking Pot Stickers and Crispy Honey Sesame Chicken! They also offer a healthier version of their General Tso's Chicken. They use stir fried sliced chicken breast instead of the crispy fried chicken chunks, known as the Governor’s Chicken Royal! A MUST try! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Mother's day was a success.
My mother lives just down the road from Szechwan North. When I asked where she wanted to go for Mother's day she picked Szechwan North.
We go there often.
We had reservations and were seated right away.
I love the lazy Susan in the center of the table. It made sharing the appetizers and main dishes very easy.
They have a very extensive menue, you should be able to find what you want . I had the Shanghai Fish.
The food was excellent as always.
The service was very good.
We will be returning there again.

The lettuce wraps were VERY VERY SALTY and MaPo Tofu was TOO GARLICKY! I felt bad sending the food back, and apologized like crazy but the servers looked at my mom and I like we were the wrong ones. It’s sad because the wonton soup, spring rolls and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was decent. The price was very reasonable, but they need a new cook. The atmosphere is very nice and the food is more misses than hits.

The food is ok. The service is just so so. This noon I ordered some spicy dish with sauce and did not finish. I ask the plastic container to take the remaining home. I told her it is better to use plastic container and sauce will come out if using paper box. The waitress did not listen and still used the paper box and the sauce went out. I paid more than 30 dollars on one dish and service did not get good service.i ordered the hot water and when this waitress came and refilled me cold water. I told her my cup is hot water. She did not listen and still add ice.

It been a while since last time I have visited, whole different team and I am glad that they finally got someone who can smile while servicing. The kitchen now put different thought on the dish that I always recommended, salt and pepper shrimp! The way they deal with shrimps makes the texture and presentation of this dish completely different from other Chinese restaurants. As a person who only care about foods, I am looking forward to find more surprises right here.

A local gem at North Chicago. Such large and diverse menu! Very authentic Chinese and Sichuan dishes and large potions! Our family always stopped by here for dinner each time we visited Chicago. This time we had mustard green, mapo tofu (best mapo ever), seafood spicy hotpot and chicken sizzling rice soup.
Update:
A year later still awesome! Added a new picture.

House special no tofu, such a weird name that catch my attention. I’m glad that I found another great tofu dishes to replace the one I use to have at Szechuan JMC. A lot of people might not like or don’t like about tofu, but if you cook it at the right way, slow stew it with bunch of flavorful ingredients, it can turn you into a “ rice killer”. The pork intense I order is over fried and became too dry, luckily we have this yummy tofu sauce to dip it in, saved my lunch to a happy ending. Will come back to explore the menu.
