Located in the heart of the vibrant Lower East Side at 77 Chrystie St, New York, Chubby Crab - Asian Wok & Cajun Kitchen stands as a unique destination for those seeking a bold departure from traditional dining. The restaurant serves as a bridge between two distinct culinary worlds, blending the aromatic, high-heat techniques of Asian wok cooking with the rustic, soul-warming traditions of Cajun-style seafood. This fusion creates an environment where the complexity of Eastern spices meets the hearty, communal spirit of Southern coastal kitchens, offering a dining experience that feels both adventurous and deeply comforting.
The atmosphere at Chubby Crab is designed to reflect the bustling energy of New York City while maintaining a welcoming space for friends and families to gather. By focusing on the integrity of fresh ingredients and the precision of time-honored cooking methods, the kitchen staff ensures that every dish tells a story of cultural intersection. Whether you are a local resident navigating the busy streets of Manhattan or a visitor exploring the diverse food scene of the city, the restaurant provides a relaxed setting to enjoy a meal that prioritizes flavor profiles and high-quality preparation.
What Sets Chubby Crab Apart
A Unique Fusion Concept: The menu is carefully curated to highlight the harmony between Asian wok-fired dishes and Cajun-inspired seafood boils. This approach allows diners to enjoy the best of both worlds, moving from delicate stir-fry techniques to bold, spice-forward seafood preparations in a single sitting.
Commitment to Freshness: At the core of the kitchen's philosophy is a dedication to sourcing quality ingredients. By prioritizing fresh seafood and seasonal produce, the culinary team ensures that the natural flavors of the ocean and the earth remain the star of every plate, minimizing the need for excessive additives.
A Welcoming Neighborhood Presence: Situated on Chrystie Street, the restaurant serves as a hub for the local community. The space is intentionally crafted to be accessible and unpretentious, making it an ideal spot for casual weeknight dinners, celebratory weekend gatherings, or a quick, satisfying meal in the middle of a busy day.
Balanced Flavor Profiles: The chefs focus on achieving a perfect equilibrium between heat, acidity, and umami. By utilizing traditional wok-tossing methods alongside classic Cajun seasoning blends, the kitchen creates depth in every dish, ensuring that each bite is nuanced rather than overwhelming.
The culinary journey at Chubby Crab is defined by its ability to remain grounded while exploring creative boundaries. By respecting the roots of both Asian and Cajun cuisines, the restaurant avoids the pitfalls of fusion dining that often sacrifices authenticity for novelty. Instead, it offers a thoughtful menu where each element serves a purpose, contributing to a cohesive and memorable meal. The focus remains on the craft of cooking—the sizzle of the wok, the careful seasoning of the seafood, and the presentation that invites guests to dig in and enjoy the experience.
As you step into the space at 77 Chrystie St, you are invited to slow down and appreciate the artistry involved in bringing these two culinary traditions together. The team at Chubby Crab is dedicated to maintaining a high standard of service and consistency, ensuring that every guest feels welcomed and well-fed. Whether you are drawn in by the promise of a spicy seafood boil or the aromatic allure of a wok-seared specialty, the restaurant provides a consistent, high-quality experience that highlights the best of what modern, fusion-focused dining can offer in New York City.
Ultimately, Chubby Crab - Asian Wok & Cajun Kitchen is more than just a place to eat; it is a reflection of the diverse and ever-evolving food culture of New York. By embracing the strengths of different culinary heritages, the restaurant creates a space where innovation meets tradition. We invite you to visit us and discover how these distinct flavors come together to create something truly special, right here in the heart of the Lower East Side.

Find it absolutely unacceptable to find leech eggs on my crab legs! It tells me that they don’t properly clean the seafood before serving/delivering it. This made me lose my entire appetite. Hoping to get a refund and will update on whether or not I do!

My daughter and I are locals to Chinatown and we couldn't wait to try the Chubby Crab! We joined the rewards program and placed our order at the restaurant. The staff is extremely nice and the food was absolutely delicious! We both got boils. She got crawfish and I got snow crab legs and blue crab. I highly recommend this place! More

Can’t believe I can get $11 fish & chips. They’re very good and made fresh. Was there around 6:30-7:00 so there were a few other delivery guys in the restaurant so it did take a while for my order so just keep that in mind if you’re on a time crunch around then More

This is the first time I ever did a review. Ordered using uber eats some fish and chips and biscuits. It was 100/10 and the most amazing fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish was well seasoned and crispy and the Cajun fries were amazing. Will definitely be ordering from here at least once a week from now on. More

I spontaneously came here with friends and my boyfriend. We had an amazing experience. We tried the seafood sampler and it was absolutely delicious. I tried the Juicy Special sauce with mild spice, and it was so good. For anyone wondering, the Juicy Special is a little bit of all the sauces combined—trust me, it’s delicious ❤️ I 100% recommend this place. The service was great and the ambience was perfect—small, cozy, and ideal for enjoying a seafood boil.
Definitely stop by if you’re nearby, or make it a point to come one day just for the food. Just FYI be aware that the mussels have barnacles if you care for that🤭

I am from LA . Cajun seafood tastes the same as boiling crab form LA and really good price.
I hope the place can be more warmer so that the food heat can be the same! In any case, this is definitely 5 stars and customer service is the best.
Second time coming here after Christmas 2024. The owner reviewed the advice and literally had the beautiful heater on the table.
The customer service that he put and the commitment he had will definitely make this business further. Will definitely come here again next time when I visit to NY.

The day I went the owner happened to be working in the front and he was really nice.
The restaurant is quite small, there are only a few tables but the place is clean and welcoming. I got a build your own seafood boil, the seafood is sold per lb or ½lb and is, flavourful and fresh. I don't really understand lbs because I use the metric system in 2026 like most of the world ... 😏 I definitely accidentally ordered too much but I took the rest back to my hotel and ate it the next day.
I really enjoyed my meal and I'm definitely going back before I fly back home.

Best price for seafood boil! It’s not a fancy sit down place but you will get dirty eating anyway. No gimmicks, just good food for good price. Heating while dining can be tricky coz it’s a small sit down area and when someone comes in you will feel the chill from outside. Dress warm if coming in winter. Or order to go but I don’t wanna clean up at home and I want to eat the seafood boil hot, so we always just dress warm if coming in the winter.

Chubby Crab – Chinatown, NYC
Don’t let the disheveled, out-of-the-way appearance fool you – the seafood here is spectacular. The Cajun spicy seafood boil bursts with flavor, and the lobster was moist, tender, and absolutely delicious. After a long flight, this was the perfect reward and a wonderful welcome back to the one-of-a-kind energy of New York City. The value is incredible, especially considering it is in the Big Apple. I will absolutely be back and I recommend this one to all seafood Aficionados in my favorite US city🇺🇸🗽🦞

I ordered the shrimp and they did not clean their shrimp. All of them still had poop in them 🤢 I took a bite of one before I saw it and I will say the part without poop does taste good but how could they not wash their shrimp… maybe my order was an outlier but for all of them to be like that is something for sure
