Discovering the Craft at Robert's Pizza And Dough Company
Located in the heart of Chicago at 465 N McClurg Ct, Robert's Pizza And Dough Company stands as a testament to the art of traditional pizza making combined with a modern, thoughtful approach to ingredients. For those who appreciate the nuances of a perfectly fermented crust and the balance of high-quality toppings, this establishment offers a unique culinary experience that goes beyond the typical neighborhood pizzeria. The atmosphere is designed to be welcoming, providing a space where the focus remains squarely on the quality of the food and the craft behind every pie that leaves the oven.
The philosophy here is rooted in the belief that great pizza begins long before the dough hits the heat. By prioritizing the science of fermentation and the sourcing of premium components, the kitchen team ensures that every bite reflects a commitment to excellence. Whether you are a local resident looking for a reliable dinner spot or a visitor exploring the diverse culinary landscape of Chicago, Robert's Pizza And Dough Company invites you to appreciate the dedication required to elevate a classic dish into something truly memorable.
What Sets Our Approach Apart
Mastery of Dough Fermentation: We place an immense emphasis on the long-fermentation process, which is essential for developing the complex flavors and airy, light texture that define our signature crust. This patience in the kitchen is what separates a standard pizza from a truly artisanal creation.
Thoughtful Ingredient Sourcing: Every element, from the acidity of our tomato sauce to the richness of our cheeses and the freshness of our seasonal produce, is selected with care. We believe that by starting with superior raw materials, we can create a more harmonious and satisfying final product.
A Focus on Culinary Integrity: Our kitchen operates with a deep respect for traditional techniques while remaining open to creative combinations. This balance allows us to honor the history of pizza making while providing a fresh perspective that keeps our menu engaging and relevant.
Community-Centric Atmosphere: Situated in the vibrant neighborhood of 465 N McClurg Ct, we strive to be more than just a place to eat. We aim to be a gathering point where the community can enjoy a high-quality meal in a setting that feels both professional and unpretentious.
Beyond the technical aspects of our cooking, the experience at Robert's Pizza And Dough Company is defined by the people who visit us. We understand that a meal is often the centerpiece of a social interaction, and we take pride in providing a backdrop that enhances those moments. Our team is dedicated to maintaining a consistent standard of quality, ensuring that whether you are a regular patron or a first-time guest, you receive the same level of care and attention to detail that we pour into our dough every single day.
As we continue to refine our craft, we remain committed to the principles that have guided us since our inception. We invite you to visit us in Chicago to experience firsthand the difference that passion, time, and quality ingredients can make. At Robert's Pizza And Dough Company, we believe that pizza is a craft worth perfecting, and we look forward to sharing our latest creations with you soon.

I don't know how I never tried this place before but I am so glad Robert came to Chicago and managed to keep his place alive through the pandemic. It's cozy and dark and with Christmas decor, just lovely. Warning, it's super loud because … More

The only reason this place deserves an additional star was because I had an excellent time during my first visit last year. However, today’s visit as of 12:26 PM, I am unfortunately lowering the service value at Robert’s. Receptionist was … More

I am so confused how I have visited Chicago so many times and have never had Robert's! I'm from the Northeast, so I tend to be picky about my pizza. Each time I'm in Chicago I give another pizza place a try and am never impressed. Robert's … More

Overall good place to get pizza. The crust however wasn’t great, it tasted like it was over cooked/hard. The pizza itself was very good tho! We sat outside and got sat quickly. However service was super slow and I think there was only 1 server for the outside. Nice patio tho! More

Great pizza place for all occasions located right along Lake Michigan. We had a handful of different pizzas and they were all delicious (though the price reflected it). The pizzas are fresh and lean more towards the New York than Chicago … More

To those of you who are tourists, you need to know first and foremost, this is NOT Chicago style deep dish pizza. It's woorfired hand tossed pizza. And that's actually a good thing.
There's a lot of hype around this place due to the number of awards they've won and the number of "Best Pizza" lists they are on. So, there's almost always going to be a sizeable wait if you just walk-in. Get a reservation instead.
Is the Hype real? Yes.
The crust has a good crisp to it and the tomato sauce is light and breezy with just enough flavor as to not overshadow the ingredients. Sausage is some of the best in the area. Pepperoni has a very nice snap and a satisfying zip. Mushrooms are fresh and understated. Black olives have flavor without the lingering brine taste that you get from a jar.
Service was fast and friendly. We ordered our pizza and had it at our table within 10 min despite the place being packed to the hills with diners.
They do have a number of standard cocktails on the menu. I would avoid those and instead look to their drink specials which seem to be made with more care and have more flair.
It's a pricey experience, but well worth the cost.

Their gluten free crust has won some awards and is actually quite amazing. It's not a traditional gluten free crust, though. They make it with wheat flour and just remove the gluten

Great place to eat after taking 90 min architectural boat tour. Not surprising this restaurant was voted best pizza in Chicago the last five years. Pizza was delicious 😋 Love location along the river and the windows open outward to make you feel as if you were eating outside. … More

My experience at this Italian restaurant was really excellent. The prosciutto pizza was prepared with a crispy and light dough, with fresh ingredients that gave it an authentic flavor. The cheeses were top quality, intense and delicious, ideal to accompany each dish. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the warm atmosphere made the visit even more pleasant. Without a doubt, a place that is worth recommending and where I will return with pleasure.”

Beautiful views of the water from this great restaurant. The staff was friendly, and helpful. They gave good suggestions for what to eat. The biggest problem with this restaurant is that the bathroom is a long wall from the restaurant. Overall, this is a great place to eat. If you enter from the street, follow signs down the stairs to the left. There is also a lift for wheelchairs.

Love this place! Nestled along an inlet of the lake in River East, Robert's offers great pizza with a good location! Ordering for take-out was easy as well. Really liked the thickness of the crust outer layer combined with a thinner base layer. Side salads (Caesar and Italian) were really good as well. Great pizza spot!

Excellent mid-sized pizzas. We ordered the "Carne" and the "Walk in the Woods" pizzas with gluten-free crust. Both of those choices had riveting flavors, distinct and delicious. The gluten free crust was perhaps the best we have had. In our experience gluten free pizza crusts are generally not that great. This was great. We thought it had the right combination of crunch and doughiness. Our only critique is that the $4 extra charge for this kind of crust seemed a bit excessive.
The restaurant itself seems very nice and has good views of the canal. The takeout window is just down the hall from the entrance. The canal location puts Robert's slightly off the beaten path. We ordered take-out and were close, so we walked there. As a result, I am not sure what parking would be like. The staff was responsive and quick. Everything was ready for our pick-up ahead of time.
We have eaten a lot of great Chicago pizza over the years. Robert's rates for us. We will be back.
